ASC Facility Billing Account Representative

Work Week: Monday – Friday – Full Time

Job Responsibilities:

  • Posts facility charges along with diagnosis & procedure codes, ensuring demographic & insurance information is accurate and correct insurance order assigned.
  • Responsible for submitting claims, electronic & hard copy.
  • Performs various collection activities including contacting insurance companies for status of claims via web or phone as well as patients by phone regarding unpaid balances.
  • Answers inquires and correspondence from patients and insurance companies, including resolving patient billing complaints.
  • Posts payments from all payers, and patients including electronic payments, EFTS, credit cards, etc. Balances and prepares daily deposit. Applies New York State surcharge as applicable.
  • Works denials and prepares appeals as necessary.
  • Researches credit balances and refunds payers & patients as appropriate.
  • Prepares monthly patient statements.
  • Performs various clerical responsibilities (fax, scanning, telephone calls, etc.).
  • Participates in educational activities.
  • Excellent customer service skills and time management a must.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of insurance guidelines. Including Medicare, NYS Medicaid, Excellus BC/BS and various commercial payers.
  • Knowledge of billing and collection practices.
  • Knowledge of basic medical coding and third party operating procedures and practices.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective internal and external working relationships.
  • Ability to enter accurate data and examine insurance documents.
  • Ability to deal courteously with patients, staff and others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly.

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED. Billing certificate preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years medical coding, billing and collection experience and/or training in Facility Billing.
  • Experience in free standing outpatient facility billing preferred.

Mental Demands:

  • Ability to handle various tasks simultaneously, organize, prioritize, make decisions and work efficiently and effectively under deadlines.
  • Ability to express oneself in a clear, concise and organized manner both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to think through a problem, analyze and break it down into parts to resolve or come up with a logical solution.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, keeping in mind company policies and procedures as guidelines.

  • This position will be allowed to work from home after initial training.

  • Interacts extensively with patients, coworkers and physicians utilizing facility.

  • Computer, mouse, telephone, printer.
  • Computerized billing system.
