SOS Patient Experience

Providing great patient care is at the very core of SOS values and mission. We take pride in helping our patients overcome from injury, and return to active healthy lifestyles. Brett Lance’s story shows the quality of care we strive to give to our patients every day.

THIS SUBMISSION CAME VIA EMAIL FROM BRETT LANCE, A SOS PATIENT.

My name is Brett Lance.  I have been a patient of SOS on 2 separate occasions for both surgery and physical therapy.

I need to preface this by stating that I am usually the first one to complain if things don’t go the way they should, so I also need to step to the plate when things go well.

In 2006 I had total bilateral knee replacement performed by Dr. Michael Clarke at Community General and did my first re-hab in the hospital for 12 days with Noah Brown who I followed to SOS for my continuing therapy.  I cannot say enough about the entire staff at SOS during that very difficult recovery.  Surgery was 10/26/2006 and Noah had me back teaching 8 hours a day and traveling to do so by the first week of March 2007.  I am exceptionally pleased with the complete range of motion I have today (at least as good as prior to the knee replacement) and the total lack of pain in what had been virtually useless joints previously.  I attribute this to the approach that Noah, and actually everyone else at the facility, took.  They went out of their way to explain not only what and how the exercises should be done for maximum benefit but made sure I understood the benefits to be expected with each one.  In short, thank you Noah.

Last fall I tore my rotator cuff and the treatment was determined to be surgery.  As a result of my previous experience with SOS I wanted to be sure and follow the same path.  Dr. Bradley Raphael performed the surgery at Northeast Surgical Center on 1/8/2015.  The staff at the surgical center (reception, nurses, doctors, everyone) was phenomenal.  Patient, caring, and knowledgeable, they went out of their way to ensure that I fully understood everything and was comfortable at each step.  The anesthesiologist did a great job with the nerve block and the explanation of how it would work.  As a result of the attention to detail by the entire staff I knew what to expect during recovery prior to resuming physical therapy.

Upon resumption of therapy I worked with Scott Jablonka and Kelsey Nash primarily, and secondarily with Ted Lambert.  These people are amazing.  Because I spend a significant amount of time at the facility at 5823 Widewaters Parkway I have been able to observe how the staff interacts with other patients and each other.  It’s clear that this is a team who works as one to help all of the patients, not just their own.  I witnessed several occasions where other staff members worked to correct the efforts of patients that weren’t technically theirs, reinforcing the correct methods for performing the various exercises to achieve optimum results.  They clearly care about their patients as people.

I cannot say enough about Scott and Kelsey.  They explain each exercise so that I understand the method, but also the expected results and the level of pain or discomfort I could expect.  They laid out a long term and short term plan for my recovery and answered all of my questions clearly and concisely.  My progress to date has been nothing short of amazing.  I am almost back to full range of motion and am increasing my strength daily.  Good stuff.

Last, but certainly not least is the office staff.  These young ladies are patient, caring, and thoughtful while dealing with what are often difficult situations and people, and clearly pitch in to help where needed.  They seem to do all of this with a smile on their faces, and more importantly, in their voices.

In short, from my perspective, this is an amazing organization.  I cannot thank you enough for the help I've received.   I would recommend this organization to anyone.  Thank you all.
